What is Liver Cancer

Liver Cancer is a fairly uncommon type of cancer but it has a very high death rate. There are two types of Liver cancers. First is primary, when the cancer starts in the liver itself, 2nd is metastatic, when the cancer has extend from the liver to some other parts of the body.
Primary liver cancer
In the United States, It is very uncommon disease which represents about 2% of all malignancies and 4% of recently diagnosed cancers. In the world from 2004, Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the fifth mainly general cancer. It is greatly general outside the United States which represents (10 to 50)% of malignancies in Africa and in parts of Asia. Rates of Hepatocellular carcinoma in men are at least two to three times greater than for women. In high-risk areas (East and Southeast Asia), men are even more likely to have Hepatocellular carcinoma than women.
By the survey of American Cancer Society, In 2004, (18,920) citizens in the United States have been diagnosed with prime liver cancer, and 14,270 persons will die by this disease. The occurrence of primary liver cancer has been increasing in Canada and United States and since the middle of 1990s, most possible as a effect of the increasing rate of (HAPATITIS, C) infections.
TYPES:There are two types of liver cancer in adults. First is hepatomas or hepatocellular carcinomas (HCC), It starts in the liver tissue itself; and cholangiomas, which are cancers that build up in the bile ducts within the liver. about( 80 to 90)% of prime liver cancers are hepatomas. In every 200,000, about five people will develop a hepatoma. In Africa and in the United States, over 40 people in 200,000 will build up this type of cancer. Two uncommon types of major liver cancer are mixed-cell tumors and cell SARCOMAS
2nd type of primary liver cancer is called a hepatoblastoma, generally it occurs in children which are less than four years of age and among the ages of 12 and 15. About 70% of children with hepatoblastomas practice total cures. If the cancer is detected near the beginning, the survival rate is decreased by 90%.
